What does a Web 2.0 website look like? There are some common elements found across the next generation sites and may be used while upgrading the design of an existing website. Web 2.0 can be said to be a second coming of the internet because it brought a lot of changes in the designing of websites. It allows web users to use the web with great ease. Let us find out what is typically a Web 2.0 website in terms of a look and feel – think of the ‘Shining Table Top effect with the product reflecting on the shiny surface’ – There are some such clearly identifiable elements listed here. Bold logos: A bold logo helps to create the impression of a clear and strong brand by incorporating attitude. Web 2.0 sites have logos that are bold enough to speak it all. They represent the brand’s quality at the first glance. Iconic menu buttons: The menu buttons have icons on its side for easy understanding of the web users. Web 2.0 site designs use lesser but more meaningful icons. This makes the Web 2.0 website lively! Easy Navigation: The navigation system in Web 2.0 websites need to be clear, steady and effortless reading. The visitors thus understand the site structure easily and instinctively know where they have to go. Ability to participate with the members of the site: Interaction being the main motive, Web 2.0 websites has space for communication, expression of thoughts and ideas. Click here to read the complete article: http://blog.magnoninternational.com/web-20-look-and-feel-of-a-website/ If you think your website looks old and outdated and want to move up the expectations curve of what your customer is looking for – Let us know, we might be able to help.

Rob Peck Marketing Manager for Custom Applications, Online Brand Building, SEO, and IT Services

To me a web2.0 site has a very clean presentation, but is a (wonderful) complete mess once the users add their content. In short web2.0 looks like whatever the users want it to. I guess here you could include things such as “has avatars” or comments field. As far as actual site elements I agree with your post. Icons, bold, bright, but with soft fonts. Basically like an OS X desktop. Just my $.02

My biggest thought when it comes to Web 2.0 is interaction. Blogs, Message Boards, Media opportunities — Oprah and Martha Stewart do it best. They offer you a chance to see all their channels of communication from their homepage, and keep it simple also. If your donors, visitors, clients, passer bys cannot interact with your website in some manner — how do you know they are there? and why would they stay?

For an example of Next Gen web development visit www.nemacolin.com Some of the new technologies built is the custom built HyperPortal 3.0 CMS that allows “direct page editing,” “On Demand Page Creation with completely malleable URL’s,” and “Appropriate AJAX.” And it costs thousands less than Vignette and other systems and without licensing fees.

Steven, Very very well done site but not web2.0. Where can I create my profile page? No comments field, not even a company blog. I don’t think it needs any of those features, but that’s what web2.0 is. When talking to prospects I’ve started calling these “Web2.0 looking” sites.

It has to be very clean and look nice. It also has to have communication channels open up. That is what I think of with Web2.0, open lines of communication and content.

Hello Vivek, I would be very interested in your opinion, and that of other eMarketing Assoc. group members, about the Web 2.0 portal our company has under development. It is currently in beta version 1.5 with the final package due to be released by year-end 2009. It does require a no-cost registration in order to enter and use all the bells and whistles delivered to this point, but it could be worth the extra keystrokes to do so in order to evaluate and critique it. There is a short video that tells our story at: http://www.me2everyone.com/more_info.php Complete access is available at: http://www.me2everyone.com/222268 Feedback, both positive and negative, will be shared with our leadership and the development team. Your collective input would be greatly appreciated.

I thought my site was optimized, but maybe not too Web 2.0. Instead of a blog on my site, I use hubpages.com. and have 350 articles out there. Interactive? I do have contact button. I’m smiling now.

Stratiholic.wordpress.com Interactive Marketing Services Provider focused on Efficiency and Effectiveness To me, Web 2.0 has nothing to do with the look, feel or easier navigation. Sure, those are nice features, but the real strength of the next generation web is in creating the opportunity to develop a two way conversation with your visitors, learning more about them and the opportunity to build a community focused around your product, service or mission. If you would like to see a great example of Web 2.0, check out Starbucks & login to see the community they have developed. They are asking their customers for feedback and ideas. The members of the community and vote on the ideas and the members are the first ones to learn about new launches and events. It’s all about listening to your customers, using that information to continue the dialog and building community.

I don’t like their coffee, but their Web 2.0 marketing is spot on!

I completely agree with Cate Shaffer Web 2.0 is all about interaction.Social Networking sites such as Orkut,Facebook are the best examples of Web 2.0.I wonder why it is called Web 2.0 may be just because the interaction takes place on web its just a wild guess and trust me lots of people who own a site and likes to optimize it does Web 2.0 activity. So keep on doing Web 2.0.

Web 1.0 was about “me.” Web 2.0 is about “us.” Posted

Hmmmmmmmmm Let’s see…….www.us2everyone.com or www.me2everyone.com Which one works better? Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Thank you everybody for adding on and making this discussion both informative and interactive (This actually does happen to be Web 2.0 in itself! ) Further our understanding of Web 2.0 is also across broader areas than just ‘Look and feel’ that I was trying to put across separately here. Web 2.0 as we know it, addresses – 1. Enhanced User Experience (What I was talking about here) 2. Interactivity – All the Web 2.0 applications, aggregators, AJAX, XML and RSS feeds etc. 3. Scalability and ease to build upon further Do have a look at this video on Web 2.0 on our agency site and you will know everything about Web 2.0, as we understand it! http://www.magnoninternational.com/web2.0.asp Hope to get some more amazing ideas and thoughts on this subject.. Cheers!

Very impressive video!

You know, it is an impressive presentation of information. But even if it was done using pretty tools, was it interactive? (YES) We are interacting because of it, sharing it with friends, discussing it here! 2.0 has an information component.

Imagine.. we picked up that video from Youtube! Web 2.0 at its best
